The two-year Business - Accounting program is the first step towards a career in the rewarding field of accounting. You will receive a well-rounded education in business while studying all the important accounting and finance courses. Students will learn accounting theory and procedures, and use accounting software.

This program provides access to important accounting credentials that can be beneficial to career development. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to pursue CPA Canada's Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF) provided specific grade requirements are achieved. Students interested in becoming a bookkeeper may transfer their courses to the Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping.

This program provides you with maximum flexibility. You can transfer into the three-year Business Administration - Accounting program at any time. After Term 1, students can move directly into Term 2 of the two-year Business or the three-year Business Administration programs.

To develop your skills, you will also have access to The Cube – Lambton College’s entrepreneurship hub – and the ability to participate in Enactus – our award-winning social entrepreneurship team.

Admission Requirements

O.S.S.D. or equivalent, with:
Grade 12 English C or U
Grade 11 or 12 Mathematics C or U

Mature applicants must be at least 19 years of age by the start of classes, be out of secondary school for at least one year and usually do not have a high school diploma. Mature applicant assessment for this program is available in the Counselling Department in the subjects of English and Math. The assessment(s) will demonstrate proficiency in required admission subjects. For more information please contact the Counselling Department at ext 3412. Academic admission requirements can be obtained through Academic Upgrading and Pre-Programs at Lambton College.

Our graduates work in all sectors of business including banks and other financial institutions, government and agencies, public accounting firms, small businesses, tax preparation firms and financial planning firms. You may begin your career working in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cost accounting, general accounting, credit and collections, inventory control, budget analysis, financial accounting, management accounting or tax preparation.

Students who successfully complete the Business – Accounting program will have a number of pathways to universities. Students interested in pursuing Nipissing University's Bachelor of Commerce (12 months) or Bachelor of Business Administration degrees at Lambton College in Sarnia must obtain the Business Administration – Accounting Advanced Diploma.

Accreditations/Certifications

Credentials can be of great benefit in career development. This program provides access to important credentials. Students in this program may be eligible for entry into CPA Canada’s Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF).  Students interested in pursuing the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation must meet specific grade requirements and transfer into the three-year Business Administration –Accounting program at Lambton College. Students interested in becoming a bookkeeper may transfer some of their courses to the Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping.  This program has access to a number of university pathways, including Nipissing University’s Bachelor of Commerce or Business Administration degree, which can be completed at Lambton College.
