This Ontario College Certificate program provides students with the knowledge and skills required to be an effective member of a food service team in a commercial, institutional or long-term care facility. The program covers food preparation, service, nutrition and sanitation practices, customer service, communications and business skills. This program includes a field placement in an institutional food service operation. Students are required to have a valid Food Handling certificate.
Please Note: All theory courses are available on a full-time and part-time basis and are offered online.
O.S.S.D. or equivalent with:
Grade 12 English C or U

Mature applicants must be at least 19 years of age by the start of classes, be out of secondary school for at least one year and usually do not have a high school diploma. Mature applicant testing for this program is available in the Counselling Department in the subject of English. The test(s) will demonstrate proficiency in required admission subjects. Note: Students are encouraged to declare their program of choice with the Registrar's Office when registering for their first course. Students must declare their program of choice by the time they complete the third course in any one program. Applications for this program are not accepted through ontariocolleges.ca.
Graduates of this program may seek employment in long term-care facilities as dietary aides in institutional food service facilities.
