Lambton College adding new two-year Sports & Recreation Administration program to full-time diploma roster

November 9, 2016

SARNIA, November 9, 2016 – Lambton College is pleased to announce it will be adding a new Sports & Recreation Administration program to its roster of two-year diplomas for fall 2017.

Yvonne Clarke, Dean, School of Business & Creative Design, Liberal Studies & English at Lambton College, says the program has been designed to offer students the versatility to pursue a variety of career opportunities in the sports and recreation industry.

“What is really unique about this program is that students will take courses in a variety of different subjects ranging from sports marketing to facilities management to fundraising and sport sponsorship,” she explains. “Students will not only study the business side of this profession, they’ll also participate in hands-on work placements, where they’ll gain upwards of 150 hours of industry-related experience prior to graduation.”

Additional opportunities for fieldwork also exist through Lambton College’s formal partnership with the OHL’s Sarnia Sting. Students have the option to participate in various experiential learning opportunities such as designing recreational programs, par65ticipating in fundraising events and working with the Athletics Department with campus intramurals and recreation.

The program has been created for sports enthusiasts who want to take that enthusiasm and turn it into a career.

“This program focuses on the business of sports,” explains Clarke. “You have to be passionate about sports and recreation but also recognize that it’s very much a professional driven industry.”

Clarke adds that students interested in pursuing a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma are also given the option to transfer into the College’s Sports & Recreation Management program.
