SARNIA, November 15, 2016 – On this day, 50 years ago, Lambton College officially opened its doors, becoming only the second college in the Ontario college system.
Originally housed in a former elementary school, the newly established college welcomed a total of 54 students who were registered in four different programs. Classes ran from November 15 until December 20 and were taught by a faculty of 10 professors, who were selected among 117 teaching applications.
The original intake graduated the following summer on July 4, 1967: First graduating class – all students graduated.
The first graduating class accepted their diplomas on July 4, 1967, and every single student graduated.
Following their inaugural success, the first full-time academic year began in September 1967 with a total 351 full time students.
Over the past 50 years, Lambton College has built a reputation as a post-secondary leader in education, training and research. In addition to a continued rise in full-time enrolment, the College is also home to more than 1,100 international students and provides skills training to over 600 apprenticeship students.
With an expanding roster of more than 90 diploma, certificate and degree programs, Lambton College is known for offering a diverse range of flexible learning options, including a broad selection of programs and courses that incorporate elements of classroom, mobile, hybrid and accelerated educational alternatives.
