Women in Technology & Trades

The Lambton College Women in Technology & Trades (WiTT) group aims to empower women by creating a supportive and industry-connected community where women can pursue their interests, education, and careers in technology and trades.

Our commitment to empowering women in technology and trades aims to foster an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Our programs are designed to break down barriers and provide the skills, mentorship, and supports needed to excel in the field of technology and trades.

When women have equal opportunities in the workforce, economies thrive. We need more women in non-traditional fields, like carpentry, because when women are in these workforces it not only promotes gender equality but also drives economic growth and innovation

    • Amanda Schaldach Associate Dean, School of Trades

Growing up in a Trades family, I had power tools in my hands before I fully understood the impact they would have on my life. My passion for hands-on work and problem-solving began early, shaping not only my career path but my dedication to supporting women in the STEM and Trades industries.

I'm committed to fostering empowerment, inclusion, diversity, and creating opportunities for women to thrive in these fields. As part of the Women in Trades and Technology (WITT) group, we offer mentorship and support, encouraging a culture of community and collaboration. Together, we can break down barriers, embrace challenges with resilience, and strive for professional excellence.

Whether it's through mentorship, advocacy, or simply leading by example, my goal is to inspire other women to enter and thrive in these industries. If you're passionate about these industries, or even just curious, I invite you to join us. Let's work together to build a more inclusive and supportive environment where women can succeed and lead.

I have been very lucky in my life to be surrounded by role models who demonstrate outstanding character and integrity. My hope is to help prepare the next generation of women in STEM to pursue their goals. My corporate career path in quality manufacturing is both a challenging and an empowering experience. I learned to navigate a landscape that has historically been dominated by men by overcoming biases.

Through this perseverance, I have had the opportunity to lead development teams, improve products, and create more efficient management systems. I believe that women in leadership roles bring diverse perspectives and innovative solutions which are crucial for modern, dynamic workplaces.

As an educator, science enthusiast, and mother to a curious and creative daughter, my goal is to inspire young girls and women to pursue their passions in applied science, engineering, and trades. Throughout my career in applied sciences and the food and beverage manufacturing industry, I’ve overcome challenges, broken barriers, and used my expertise in product development, food safety, and process optimization to make an impact.

I've had the privilege of working with women in leadership roles, from maintenance management to executives, whose mentorship inspired me to envision a future where women are a norm in technology and trades. I hope to mentor and inspire the next generation, just as those before me did. You won’t find a more passionate group of women than those in WiTT, who will support you every step of the way!
