The Lambton College Indigenous Student Council and Indigenous Student Centre will be hosting their 30th Anniversary Pow Wow on Thursday, April 3 in the College’s Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex. The yearly celebration of life will feature dancers in full regalia, traditional arts and crafts, and singing and dancing. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the Pow Wow celebration and discover what it means to First Nation people.

Doors open to the public at 10 a.m. and the grand entry will open the cultural event at 11 a.m. with all dancers entering the dance circle for the first time. The festivities will continue until 3 p.m.

In addition to dance demonstrations, the event will also feature information booths, traditional food, intertribal songs, arts and craft vendors, and prizes for audience participation.

A special exhibition on loan from the Legacy of Hope Foundation will also be available for viewing. The educational displays include Cruel and Unethical, which features examples of the mistreatment of Indigenous Peoples in Canada’s healthcare system, and Peter Henderson Bryce: A Man of Conscience, outlining Bryce’s work as the medical health officer for the then-named Department of Indian Affairs to expose the high mortality rates of First Nations children in Residential Schools due to poor conditions and tuberculosis.

Admission to the Pow Wow is free and the public is welcome to attend.
