Overview
Working in cloud computing involves managing and providing access to remote servers and services through the internet, allowing organizations to store, process, and manage data and applications more efficiently and cost effectively.
In a world of wireless communications shared between businesses, clients, and individuals, the Lambton College Modern Networks and Cloud Computing, two-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate prepares graduates with the skills needed for configuration and integration of wireless devices. Students can expect to train on and learn from the most advanced technologies in the design, operation and management of wireless networks and cloud systems.
Program curriculum focuses on the collection and transfer of data through wireless related areas such as networks, servers, embedded systems and other wireless technologies. The final semester enhances all learning outcomes through a co-operative education work term. Working in a variety of roles that support and manage wireless information, cloud networks or as wireless server entrepreneurs, graduates will learn the skills needed for many exciting careers.

This Lambton College program is licensed to and delivered by Queen's College (PDF), a licensed private career college in Mississauga, Ontario. Students who are registered at are students of a public college and as such, will receive full credit from Lambton College for all Lambton College courses completed at the Queen's College campus in Mississauga. Students who meet program graduation requirements will graduate with a credential from Lambton College. Students may be scheduled to have classes on Saturdays.

WIL Project Fees
Students who are not successful in securing a co-op or fail to meet the co-op requirements will need to register in CPL-5559 WIL Project.
There is an additional fee of $2,480 for each student enrolled in the WIL Project course.
Textbooks
The anticipated cost for textbooks in this program is approximately $500 - $700 per term. This amount accounts for both mandatory textbook costs (included in tuition fees) as well as textbook fees not included in your tuition fee amount.

Health Insurance Coverage
Emergency medical insurance is mandatory for all international students at Lambton College. This includes students who are full-time and part-time and who are on a co-op. This insurance is provided by GuardMe - a third party insurance provider.

Data Communications & Security
This course introduces students to industry standard techniques with respect to network protocol suite--TCP/IP, network equipment installation and interconnection using fundamental routing and switching technologies; fundamental network system implementation and troubleshooting, network management and security.
Fundamentals of RF Communications
Enterprise WLAN Administration
This course introduces students to the knowledge and skills required to progress from traditional networking technologies into the more sophisticated world of data communications without wires. This course provides a hands-on guide to planning, designing, installing and configuring wireless LANs that prepares students for the Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) certification. It provides also in-depth coverage of wireless networks with extensive step-by-step coverage of IEEE 802.11b/a/g/n/ac/ax implementation, design, security, and troubleshooting.
Operations Systems Foundations
This course covers Microsoft Windows Server and Unix operating systems. This course covers fundamentals of Windows Server 2019 operating system, which includes installation and basic administrative tasks as well as troubleshooting and preventive maintenance techniques. This course is designed to prepare individuals for the responsibilities of being a Windows server 2019 administrator. It provides the knowledge, concepts, and skills necessary to install, customize and troubleshoot Windows 2019 server. This course also prepares students to work with UNIX operating system. Students will be introduced to UNIX using a similar, open-source operating system called Linux, and will learn about the basic features and usage of the software.
Workplace Diversity
By 2031 almost 26% of Canada's population will be foreign-born and 31% will be visible minorities, according to new projections released by Statistics Canada. The Canadian workplace is going to look and feel different and you need to be prepared. Intercultural competency is required for the Canadian workplace environment. The focus of this course is on workplace diversity, Canadian business practices and cross-cultural communication skills. The goal is for students to be able to work more effectively in an intercultural environment.
Network Security
This course is designed to teach students about WLAN security so that they to be able to design, install, and support wireless network security. To that end, this course goes well beyond the CWSP exam requirements. The course is focused on standards-based wireless security protocols, security policy, and secure wireless network design. This course introduces students to many of the technologies and techniques that intruders use to compromise wireless networks and that administrators use to protect wireless networks from such attacks. With recent advances in wireless security, WLANs are securable beyond their wired counterparts. The course will help students to develop necessary skills to be able to assist in the creation and implementation of an organization's enforceable security policy by following applicable regulations, standards, and accepted best practices.
Mobile Communications
Students are introduced towards the evolution of Mobile Technology emerging from the 1st Generation of Mobile Communications up until the 5th Generation Mobile Radio called the 5G NR. This course entitles the students to incorporate the required knowledge and skills relevant to industry standard models and frameworks. This course caters concepts and techniques in RF, evolution of Mobile Radios/handsets, 2G,3G,4G & 5G Network architectures, features, capabilities, shortcomings and advancements, radio propagation models, frequency/spectrum allocation, slicing, O-RAN, 5G standalone and non-standalone modes, handoffs/handovers, Modulation (BPSK, QPSK, 16 and 64 QAM) Multiple Access (FDMA, TDMA, CDMA, OFDMA) and multiplexing Techniques (FDM, TDM and OFDM).
Unified & Cloud-Powered Communications
In the early stages of communication, people were accustomed to using messaging services such Pagers and PTT (Push to Talk) Radios. With the gradual incline, we were introduced to a more prominent communication model called the SMS (Short Messaging Service), which uses NAS layer protocol. And with the advent of IP based messaging service, our whole communication methodology has advanced to a greater tier producing a solution which is not only fast and reliable, but also eminent within the audience. However, these services still require a platform to run and servers to host the user traffic. Organizations like Google and Microsoft are shifting to a paradigm where physical servers are being replaced by cloud-powered solutions due economic and technical reasons. In this course students will realize unified communications as a service (UCaaS) - a cloud-delivered unified communications model. It not only helps the audience decode the practical applications of UCaaS, but also engineers workplace productivity and improves customer satisfaction using unified communications for remote workforce. It also drives the learner to identify the core attributes of UcaaS and bring together team messaging, video meetings, phone, as well as text messaging and fax, in a single cloud-based solution. UCaaS also can be tightly integrated with the productivity tools that companies use every day, such as email, persistent chat, file/desktop sharing, document storage, and more. Students shall be able to describe, execute and formulate all the essential UCaas functions and compare them against other cloud communication models.
Introduction to Project Management
This course provides a fundamental knowledge to manage people, workflows, and costs in project management. Students (1) analyze the project management landscape; (2) apply the project management knowledge areas, process groups, and traditional methods to IT projects; (3) apply agile methods to IT projects; and (4) use project management software to conduct project analysis, develop reports, and manage changes to IT projects. The group assignment and term project provides students an opportunity to incorporate and apply project management skills to solve real-world problems.
Cloud Computing
Traditionally, software applications were deployed on physical servers owned and maintained by the organization developing the software; however, over the past decade, there has been a shift from companies of all sizes towards leveraging cloud computing platforms over in-house servers due to a variety of economic and technical reasons. In this course students will (1) evaluate technical and fundamentals topics of cloud computing, (2) analyze various methods for cloud management, (3) evaluate cloud platform solutions including infrastructure as a service (IaaS) to install and configure virtual resources on the cloud platforms, (4) evaluate storage provisioning, networking, testing and deploying cloud technologies, (5) discuss cloud computing standards, security, the business in cloud computing and methods of planning for cloud integration, and last but not least, (6) discuss cloud deployment options and cloud DevOps.
Job Search & Success
This course provides student with skills and knowledge to help support their career search and succeed in the workplace. Students align their personal skill set and goals to guide them on their career paths. They will learn how to effectively conduct a job search, build a professional and well-tailored resume and cover letter, and develop and practice interview techniques. Students will also develop their personal brand to help support effective career networking and aid in their job search. Teamwork and collaboration in the workplace are also discussed. Self-reflection is used to inspire insight and support their professional career journey.
LTE Fundamentals Voice & Data
This course covers the fundamentals of LTE features and procedures. It gives an in-depth high-level understanding of the LTE Systems, radio access and core network architecture. Students also learn about VoLTE and IMS based VoLTE capabilities.
Advanced Network Analysis & Design
This course introduces the students to the advanced mechanics of switches, routers and their associated protocols and algorithms. Students will configure these advanced protocols in various kinds of networks and will study their behaviour and response. They design, test and troubleshoot enterprise routing domains based on real- life business and technology requirements. Students will understand the fundamentals of IPv6 and will gain a complete understanding of the differences between the IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, critical pre- and post-deployment installation techniques to ensure successful migration, and how to deploy mixed IPv4/IPv6 networks.
Emerging Networking Technologies
This course will examine emerging wireless technologies and communications strategies. It will cover the trends in mobile and other wireless systems, applications and services. Course content is updated for every edition to cover cutting-edge solutions and new trends in the wireless market. Students are encouraged to perform research and be up-to-date with emerging technologies.
Capstone Project for Modern Networks
Employers expect candidates to have experience with teamwork in project environments. This course will prepare students with the skills and attributes required to enter, sustain, and grow in the Wireless industry. This course allows students to choose a desired area of interest in the Wireless industry and materialize the theoretical concepts by designing and delivering a project around the area of interest. Students will demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot, communicate, and resolve issues throughout the development phase of their coursework. In this course, students (1) work on concrete goals in a small team; (2) develop a project related to wireless technologies based on pre-set requirements; and (3) manage deadlines, milestones and deliverables with their course instructor, who represents the client. Students build a complete, deliverable product and present it to the client professionally. The design must be supported by documented market research, marketing, and business plans. The overall effort is judged based on the quality of work, deliverables, meeting the deadlines, and the final presentation.
Work Term (Full-Time)
Co-operative education provides students with the opportunity to apply classroom learning to the workplace, undertake career sampling and gain valuable work experience that may assist students in leveraging employment after graduation.
WIL Project
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Project is aimed at enriching students by connecting different program areas of study, cutting across subject-matter lines, and emphasizing unifying concepts. The focus of the WIL Project is to make connections between study and industry by engaging students in relevant and meaningful activities that are connected to and practiced within the professional workplace. WIL Project allows students to enhance and strengthen their employability prospects post-graduation by fine tuning skills and knowledge and meeting the expectations of today's employers. Students are required to attend the scheduled shifts in the WIL office, reporting to the WIL Supervisor. Weekly real-world challenges are presented in the WIL office, designed by industry professionals. In addition to the weekly assigned deliverables, students are also offered professional development sessions, and exposed to industry guest speakers, enhancing their opportunity to develop their professional network.
Co-op Eligibility & WIL Project Fee
In order to be eligible to secure an approved full-time co-op work term (CPL-1049), students must have a GPA of 2.8 or greater and complete all the co-op eligibility requirements. Failing to do so will require students to enroll in CPL-5559 WIL Project at an additional cost.

Post-Graduate Employment
International students who successfully complete their programs of study at Lambton College may be eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Program. This program allows students to gain valuable Canadian work experience.
A work permit under the PGWP may be issued for the length of the study program, up to a maximum of three years. A post-graduation work permit cannot be valid for longer than the student's study program, and the study program must be a minimum of eight months in length. The length and approval of the PGWP is determined solely by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Students must meet the eligibility requirements to apply for a post-graduation work permit.

Student Responsibilities

Internet Speed Requirements
For best performance for students learning remotely, an internet connection with a minimum of 40 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speed is recommended in order to effectively use video conferencing and remote lecture delivery software as well as, other online resources remotely. Due to the large area over which students may be dispersed, we are unable to recommend a specific provider, so you will need to inquire around your area to find one that best suits your needs.
