SARNIA, May 3, 2024 – Lambton College’s strategic commitment to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) is being celebrated with the top honour amongst Canadian colleges.

On Tuesday, April 30, the College received the Gold Award of Excellence in EDI on behalf of Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), the organization that represents publicly supported colleges, institutes, cegeps and polytechnics in Canada and internationally.

Lambton College has long championed the principles of EDI and formalized this commitment in 2021 through the implementation of a structured EDI strategy following an extensive review and assessment process. The five-year strategy was developed in collaboration with a third-party consultant to serve as a comprehensive road map, guiding everything from curriculum development and student services to research infrastructure and organizational culture.

The strategy outlines seven pillars of action that work to ensure that EDI considerations are woven into the very fabric of the College’s culture, including integration into operational planning and policies and procedures. This work has led to the establishment of a range of new initiatives, such as the Research EDI Guide, the Lion’s Pride Gender and Sexuality Alliance, and an Academic Upgrading boot camp developed to support traditionally under served and underrepresented groups in post-secondary education.

Rob Kardas, President & CEO of Lambton College, expressed immense pride in receiving the CICan Gold Award because it speaks directly to the heart of the College. He reiterated that Lambton College is proud of its diversity, and pleased to welcome students, employees, and community members of all cultures, races, religions, abilities, genders, and sexual identities – and that they will continue to do the work required to keep inclusivity at the forefront of everything they do.

“I am immeasurably proud that Lambton College has received this prestigious award from Colleges and Institutes Canada,” he said. “This award is a testament to our institution-wide commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. From our strategic plans to our operations to the way we interact with each other every day, this College community has dedicated itself to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to live a full and authentic life at Lambton College.”
