Building Removal Part of Long-Term Vision to Enhance Lambton College Campus
SARNIA, April 24, 2025 – In their ongoing efforts to enhance the campus experience for students and members of the community, Lambton College is taking necessary steps to remove an outdated building from the north-end of the property.
Once celebrated as the first residence in the Ontario college system, the end-of-life North Building is currently undergoing demolition. The process to take down the building has been carefully planned so that the EarlyON Child & Family Centre can remain in its current location, adjacent to the North Building.
“The North Building represents a significant part of our story as a community college,” said Rob Kardas, President & CEO, Lambton College. “It has served our students, employees and the community for decades. The building originally operated as our first student residence, but through the years it was also used for academic programming and office space.”
The North Building demolition project is part of the College’s long-term plan to renew and modernize essential areas of the campus to meet the evolving needs of students and the community. Once demolition is complete, the EarlyON Child & Family Centre will undergo minor exterior repair work where the buildings were connected. Repairs are expected to be completed by early summer.
During this time, the EarlyON Centre will remain open, allowing local families to continue to have access to programs and services.
“As we planned for this project, it was important to us that the EarlyON Centre experience minimal disruption throughout the construction process,” said Kardas. “The Centre is a vital part of the lives of countless local families, and an integral component of the real-world experience we provide to our Early Childhood Education students.”
Kardas says these developments are part of a larger campus revitalization plan that was launched in 2015, which has already welcomed new buildings, learning facilities, and outdoor landscaping. While there are no plans to replace the North Building, its removal, along with other recent projects, represents a significant milestone in Lambton’s multi-phase vision to transform the campus and make way for future enhancements.
“These upgrades reflect Lambton’s ongoing dedication to creating a modern and vibrant campus environment that promotes academic excellence, social connection, and community engagement,” he said.
