Two new labs unveiled at Lambton College to propel Biotechnology and natural health products

SARNIA, April 24, 2024 – Lambton College’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and addressing industry needs was reaffirmed today with the opening of two new research labs: the Bio Safety Level 2 (BSL-2) and the Natural Health Products (NHP) Research Labs.

With only a handful of certified facilities of its kind, the BSL-2 lab is equipped to handle projects involving microorganisms requiring elevated containment measures and promises to catalyze advancements in biotechnology research. By providing faculty and students access to advanced biotechnology and biomanufacturing capabilities, the new lab is set to enrich academic programs and drive groundbreaking discoveries.

Similarly, the NHP lab fills a crucial niche by supporting the processing of highly sensitive products with stringent purity requirements. This cutting-edge facility offers Lambton College researchers a containment-free space to extract and refine natural health products, catering to the burgeoning demand in this field.

Lambton College President & CEO Rob Kardas emphasized the significance of these new research spaces.

"These lab spaces reaffirm Lambton College's commitment to research and innovation, with a focus on addressing the critical needs of the biotechnology industry and the expanding natural health sector. They represent more than just an extension of our research and development capabilities, they serve as incubators for hands-on learning experiences, offering students valuable research roles and co-op opportunities."
