Firefit Team Claims Medals, Awards and Records to Close Season
SARNIA, October 8, 2024 – Lambton College closed out the 2024 Firefit season in a blaze of glory.
Following a successful run of regional competitions, the team capped off the season at the Canadian National and FireFit World Championships in Kamloops, British Columbia with a series of medals, records, and awards.
During the event, which took place from September 25 – 29, the team claimed seven medals including three gold, two silver, and two bronze – and also managed to break two Firefit records!
Lambton College Firefit Results
Gold: Individual, Women’s Team Time
Alyssa Zirul, Teagan Wehring, Jenny Ward, Grayce Anderson and Maddy Forte
Gold: Women’s Relay – Broke the FireFit record for women with a time of 1:36!

Silver: Men’s Relay – Broke the Men’s College Record – and then broke their own record with a time of 1:03.11, losing to Edmonton Fire by 0:00.02 seconds.

Additionally, head coach Sue Patrick was also presented with the 2024 Roy Davis Inspiration Award. Patrick, a Physical Education & Health professor at Lambton College, has helped coach the Firefit team over a decade. The award recognized Patrick for her continuous support of FireFit, on and off the course as a mentor, coach, and host.
“Sue is an exceptionally dedicated coach and professor. Our Lambton College Firefit Team was outstanding this year, and we would not have achieved this success without her continued leadership and commitment to our students,” said Head Coach Shane Bettridge. “I am thrilled to see Sue’s hard work recognized and very proud of our team’s performance all season. Everyone did an excellent job representing Lambton College on the national and world stage.”
The National and World Championships concluded an incredibly successful season for the team, who expects to be back on the circuit, ready to compete for next year.
Members of the Lambton College Firefit team train at the College’s Fire School, renowned across the country as an industry leader in delivering Industrial and Municipal Firefighting training. The world-class facility features a four-story burn tower which uses live-fueled fire props to achieve the most realistic firefighting training in real world scenarios. Participants are exposed to various props and fire scenes that are relevant to their needs.
