Lambton ranks #1 in Canada for paid student research positions at a medium-sized college

SARNIA, January 27, 2022 – Continued strength in research while fostering a culture of innovation for students has landed Lambton College one of the top spots on the list of Canada’s top research colleges.

According to Research Infosource Inc., which released its annual list of Canada's Top 50 Research Colleges today, Lambton College currently ranks as the #1 research college in Canada for the number of paid student research positions at a medium-sized college. The newly released data also ranks Lambton College #1 in the province for research partnerships at a medium-sized college. Overall, Lambton ranked #4 in the entire country for research income.

“To be named the #1 research college in Canada for the number of paid student research positions is exceptional news for Lambton College,” said Rob Kardas, President & CEO, Lambton College. “This ranking is a reflection of our continued commitment to our students, and the many ways their successes continue to inspire us to push boundaries and drive innovation.”

Kardas says the ranking would not be possible without the incredible efforts of the many students involved in research projects taking place on campus. Students who participate in research projects are given the opportunity to assist in real-world projects with industry partners.

“Our students are given the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience on industry-related projects, which sets them apart in the workforce when they graduate. Many of our students secure employment as a direct result of their time working on research projects, a testament to the quality of the student researchers here at Lambton.”

Dr. Mehdi Sheikhzadeh, Vice President, Research & Innovation at Lambton College says the latest rankings also reflect the College’s commitment to its Strategic Mandate, which identifies innovation as a core value.

“Lambton College and the Research & Innovation department continue to experience tremendous growth and success in this area, and that is thanks to the dedication of our researchers, faculty, staff, students and partners involved in our many collaborative research projects,” said Sheikhzadeh. “To continue to be recognized as one of the top research college’s in the country for both paid student researchers and researcher partners, as well as an overall #4 ranking, is a reflection of our commitment to be a leader of research and innovation locally, provincially, and nationally”.

Lambton College is committed to equipping students, community, and industry with the supports and skills needed to succeed in today’s economy. Lambton has always maintained a strong position in the annual standings, spending the last six years in the top five national ranks, including a #1 status in 2018.
